Mrs. Ophelia Thompson-Valliant, 92, died Thursday, September 15, 2016, at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, AR. Born August 12, 1924, in Shaw, Miss. to the late Annie Wilson and the late Rev. C.W. Thompson, she was known to some as "Momma Doll", "Doll" and "Gigi".

She moved to Osceola from Greenville, Miss. in 1964, where she began working at Fairley Clinic as a custodian and doctor's assistant. She worked there for 25 years. She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the Rev. S.L.A. Jones and was a dedicated member of the Usher Board, eventually becoming its president. She later joined the Mother's Board and was a faithful member until the end.

She married the late Joseph Valliant, Sr. on February 4, 1995.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, one stepson and a sister.

Mrs. Thompson-Valliant is survived by five daughters, Annie M. Scales and Julia (Charles) Branch, both of Osceola, Teresa Maeri, of Bloomington, Minn., Nellie Henry of Rockford, Ill. and Barbara Boyce, of White Hall, Ark.;

Two sons, Wilbert (Lee) Thompson of Los Angeles, Calif. and the Rev. Joseph (Gwen) Valliant, Jr. of Redfield, Ark.;

Thirty-three grandchildren;

Fifty-nine great-grandchildren;

Six great-great-grandchildren;

A host of cousins, close friends and The Golden Girls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Pleasant Grove M.B. Church with Pastor Ed Richardson officiating. Burial will be held in the Whiteside Cemetery in Osceola. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Henson-Holcomb Mortuary of Pine Bluff, Ark. is in charge of arrangements.
